Alfa Romeo GTA/GTV  Race Setup and History Won 1970 Trans-Am 2.5 Championship  "The Alfa Romeo Giulia coupe and its derivatives-the GT Veloce (GTV), GT Junior, GTA, GTAm, and GTA Junior-has enjoyed one of the most successful racing records of any production car of its era. Strong Points The Alfa DOHC Motor is considered a classic that produced the most power per cc in the series.  The GTA used a 1570 cc motor and the GTV used a 1779 cc motor. Strong acceleration, especially in the GTV. Weak Points Noted for developing extreme understeer. Trans-AM rules required a weight penalty.  This was added as ballast with a 99 lb skidplate under the fuel cell and a 50 lb plate under the engine. Live rear axel (though this does not seem to be much of a problem). Common Setup 1570, 1779 and 2000 motors were used. 48/52 front to rear weight to help reduce understeer. Common to use aluminum hood and doors in the 2.5 Challenge. Dual Webers Front and rear ventilated brakes. Minilite 15 inch wheels.
