Uncle Tom Republicans
The Uncle Tom (i.e. Log Cabin ) Republicans are now trying to make peace with the Bush administration and are going to help
lobby in support of right-wing policies like privatizing (i.e., ENDING) Social Security, militarism and increased defense
spending, cutting social programs, etc.. The LCR's political director Chris Barron stated that the gay community must accept
the fact that Bush won and get over it. LCR has hired a lobbyist to assist the Republican Party and the Bush Administration
in passing conservative legislation and to work with conservatives on other issues besides marriage.
The Log Cabin Repubs even sponsored a recent conservative political conference starring Karl Rove and other anti-gay right-wingers.
Some in the gay community think we should accept conservative gay Republicans and embrace the Log Cabin Republicans in the
name of "diversity." I do not believe the gay right and the gay left are even in the same political movement! Clearly
the "homocons" are more committed to militarism and corporatism than social justice and equality. Progressive gays
should NOT accommodate and defend those who sell out the glbt commmunity for tax cuts and class warfare against the working
class and the poor.
I will have nothing to do with the Uncle Tom Republicans and will continue to speak out and act against their elitist political
and economic agenda which is at odds with the progressive "gay liberation movement," which we should remind people
was a product of liberal/left/radical political movements (anti-war, womens rights, labor, civil rights, etc.) which organized
against conservative political power.
In the last two Presidential elections, conservative gay Republicans supported a candidate (George W. Bush) aligned with
the anti-gay Religious Right who opposed not only gay marriage, but has opposed almost every gay rights law from hate crimes
to the non-discrimination act, and actively opposed the election of two candidates (Al Gore and John Kerry) who have given
more support for gay and lesbian civil rights than any national candidates in U.S. history. In the 2000 election gay Republicans
gave 25 % of the gay vote to Bush, giving him more than enough votes to steal the election from Al Gore, and even more voted
for Bush the second time against Kerry despite the Log Cabin Republican's refusal to officially endorse him.
I will not back away from calling gay republicans who support a neo-fascist, anti-gay, Christian Right political party "Uncle
Tom Republicans"-- because that is what they are. While some want to embrace them in the name of "diversity,"
I think its about time for a community "shunning" of those who sell out not only gays and lesbians but women, minorities,
the poor and the working class to gain economic and political power. Progressive gays and lesbians should not embrace homocons
and their neo-fascist political agenda.

Gays Under Attack in Tennessee
The Republicans have re-introduced the anti-gay marrriage amendment in the Tennessee Legislature, and have also introduced
an amendment to ban "homosexuals" from adopting. The gay-marriage ban is being sponsored by Rep. Bill Dunn (R-Knoxville)
but many spineless Democrats are also supporting it--"reluctantly," including House Speakeer Jimmy Naifeh (D-Covington).
Naifeh admits that the amendment is "bad public policy," but since it has so much popular support, he will vote
for it.
It is bad enough that the Republican Party is gaining political power by bashing gays and lesbians, attacking us, opposing
our civil rights, and using homophobia to gain the support of conservative southern voters, but when the Democrats vote against
their own priniciples and values for political reasons, it is disgusting.
Last year Rep. Harold Ford Jr. voted with with anti-gay Republicans, and against the Democratic Party's official opposition,
for the anti-gay Federal Marriage Amendment, even though he didn't personally support it, for political reasons (i.e., so
the Republicans wouldn't use the vote against him and accuse him of being for gay marriage in the 2008 senate race.)
All of this puts progressive/liberal and gay Democrats in a very difficult position--should we support the Democratic candidates
who turn against us for political reasons to stop anti-gay Republicans from getting elected? And what is the difference?

Bush's Budget: More Class Warfare
The Bush Administration presented its budget and even I could not believe the class warfare being waged against the gullible
American people. After turning the Clinton surplus he inherited into record deficits and mounting federal debt, Bush continues
what the wiser elder Bush once called "voodoo economics." It's Reaganomics, "trickle-down" economics
on steroids! Bush has no shame... he is either stupid or evil to the core.
To appease his conservative base, Bush is cutting programs that benefit a lot of people in need (education, veterans, medicaid,
etc.) while increasing the military (5%!) and putting even more money into "faith-based" initiatives (tax-payer
support for religious indoctrination and discrimination).
Bush continues to try to scare the American people by creating a false Social Security Crisis, even though the costs of his
tax cuts to the top 1 percent of the rich is much more than the alleged shortfall in Social Security. His budget does not
even include the costs of his privitization plan which will cost at least 2 trilllion, thus add more debt.
The 5 percent increase in military spending does not even include the costs of the Iraq War! He is even cutting programs
to increase police and security for the American people...
So much for "compassionate conservativism"...
And in his state of the union "speech", he continued his push for the anti-gay Federal Marriage Amendment. When
will gay and "moderate" Republicans quit supporting this fascist?
Wake up people!
