Rep. Harold Ford Jr., the "Dean of Fainthearted Centrist Democrats", has now abandoned the Congressional Black Caucus and the Democratic Party once again by embracing the right-wing libertarian/conservative Republican plan to privatize (Phase Out!) Social Security! Bush and the Republican Party, with lots of help from right-wing think tanks like the Cato Institute and business, are launching a major PR campaign to scare the American people into believing that the SS system is in crisis (it is not) and that the only way to save it is to allow workers to take money out and invest in the stock market (i.e., to privatize it). Social Security is not in a "crisis"--it is the most successful social program in history, which is why conservatives hate it! It is true that payments will begin to exceed revenues around 2015, but thanks to the surplus, the system will still be able to pay full benefits until 2045! Yes, changes need to be made, as always, to ensure its survival, but the changes required a minimal: a small raise in the retirement age as life expectancy increases and raising the payroll taxes. The major change needed is to move from a regressive payroll tax to a progressive payroll tax--larger tax rates for higher income earners, which conservatives and the rich do not want. But that is what must be done...

Back to Harold Ford Jr. and the Democratic Party--if the Democratic Party keeps abandoning its own principles and constituents (its BASE), and moves further to the right following the DLC "centrists" (i.e., CONSERVATIVE) Democrats like Harold Ford Jr., the Democratic Party will gain few conservative voters and loose a LOT of its own base to other parties. It will not win politically.

In 2004, just before the election, Harold Ford Jr. switched and supported the anti-gay "Federal Marriage Amendment", thus abandoning gays, the Democratic Party and the Democratic Party Presidential candidate, John Kerry. The DP and the Kerry Campaign OPPOSED the Republican FMA and defended the constitutional rights of gay Americans. Harold Ford Jr. joined with the right-wing Republicans and voted for an Amendment to the U.S. Constitutution to write discrimination (for the first time in history!) into our "sacred document." Shame on him!

The Democratic Party, nationally and in Tennessee, deserves better leadership than Harold Ford Jr. He thinks moving to the right will allow him to beat Republican Bill Frist in 2006 for the Senate, he is wrong. He will not win many conservative white votes, and he will LOOSE a lot of progressive/liberal and gay votes... and he will LOOSE the election.

It is time to face the truth about our country--the United States under George W. Bush and the Republican Party is becoming a neo-fascist society.  The signs are everywhere, but the media and the public are totally oblivious to what is going on, as they were in Germany.  Hitler  and the Nazi's played on nationalism, militarism, fear of "godless communism," secularism, feminism, etc. to gain political power.  Once a country has committed its soldiers to a "war", the people fall behind the leader and anyone who questions why is marginalized.  It's happening here folks.


The American people re-elected a man who lied and misled the world to rationalize an illegal invasion of Iraq.  Thousands of people have died, inclulding over 1,000 U.S. soldiers, who are fighting another losing war orchestrated by neo-conservatives in Washington.  Yet I see a flood of "W the President" stickers, the media continues to fail in its obligations to critically analyze what is going on and inform the public; the Democratic Party is moving to the right  whithering away.


Radical right-wing conservatives dominate almost everey media outlet now (try finding a progressive liberal/left perspective on talk radio or CNN, MSNBC and Fox!)


I've tried to fight the right and continue the progressive sruggle against corporate power, the Christian Right, anti-gay and anti-feminist ideology, and oppose the nationalistic war machine, but I'm losing hope and faith...
