The Constitutionalist Party
is the result of frustration with the current political
parties of America who are not taking the steps necessary
to promote the Constitution and human freedom.
All the other political
parties either only pay lip service to the following of
the Constitution and the advancement of human freedom
while promoting legislation that does otherwise, or they
seek to promote change without allowing for any
compromise, which essentially makes the change they
advocate impossible. It is a fact of American politics
that change cannot occur without compromise and
incrementalism of some kind.
The
Founding Fathers faced the same problem. The Constitution itself would never have been
brought into existence without compromises between those
who believed in a strong central government and those who
advocated the autonomy of the states, as well as the
compromises between the power of the government and the
rights of the people. The Constitution, as a result, is
not perfect in fulfilling the needs of any one ideology,
but it has succeeded in promoting enough common needs
that it remains the major factor behind the tremendous
success of the United States in the world today.
The
Republicans are contradictory in their ideology with no
clear vision. It
boggles the mind how a party can claim to be for the
shrinking of the federal government when they are
proposing morality-based legislation in boatloads.
Whether it be the Flag-Burning Amendment which restricts
the freedom of speech, to the host of religiously-based
legislation encouraging the prosecution of homosexuals,
to the fact that any legislation based on religious
principles inherently favors one religion over the others
in a nation where there is no national religion and all
religions are considered equal, to their advocacy of
enforcement techniques for the War On Drugs that violate
human rights as outlined in the Constitution, the
Republicans are merely advocates of smaller government in
some places and more intrusiveness in others.
The
Democrats advocate programs that increase dependency upon
the federal government instead of fostering
self-reliance, thereby eroding the strength of human
freedom. The New
Deal was the first step towards the recent decline of
self-dependency in America, and the Democrats seek to not
only keep these programs going but to make them even
bigger, thereby making larger and larger portions of the
American public dependent on the government for their
livelihood. Using the government to redistribute wealth
in any capitalist society weakens the whole system, as
all it does is deprive others of what the beneficiary
receives, which reduces the incentive for the other
groups to produce as well as increase the dependence of
the recipient on the handout and reduces their incentive
to overcome their own difficulties. Too many of their
ideas are simply not allowed under the intent of the
Constitution, and for good reason.
The
Libertarians have the right principles, but are at
cross-purposes figuring out what they truly stand for and
how to get there. The LP today encompasses all groups interested
in human freedom, from the extremists (anarchists) to the
more moderate. The problem is that they are overrun by
hard-liners who are more interested in sticking 100% to
their principles and never compromising, which results in
the Party's refusal to do anything that is necessary
towards actually changing America. In fact, many
Libertarians abhor the concept of one of their own
actually gaining a public office, since that would mean
compromising on something and "playing within the
system". The Libertarian Party has also not come
forth strongly in support of the Constitution, which
remains the most successful form of modern government
today, since they are more interested in sticking to
their theories about human societal freedom rather than
building upon working and fixable structures.
The
Reform Party has no specific goals in mind, it just
advocates change. This is not enough. A political
Party in America needs to have real and achievable goals
in mind in order to best represent those who vote for it.
Change simply for the sake of displeasure with the
current political environment will never lead to
intelligent solutions.
So
why not work to change one of the other Parties? The reason why is because the
thing that makes our representative democracy the
strongest is to do what is necessary on an individual
basis to make our beliefs and ideas heard. The
Republicans and the Democrats are both locked into
partisan wars with each other, each more interested in
getting re-elected or slandering the other Party instead
of promoting the Constitution and liberty in America. It
simply does not benefit either one to entertain new
ideas. The Libertarians are too locked into their beliefs
to allow themselves to take the necessary steps in
America's political system to make changes, and actively
resist any attempts to change them in this regard. There
currently is no party that wants realistic solutions to
the issues of freedom and the Constitution in America via
the established methods of compromise and incrementalism.
There
needs to be a party that advocates real change towards
real principles. Real change cannot occur without
compromise, and real principles cannot exist in a Party
that gives more priority to merely beating or attacking
their opponents than to anything else.
Therefore,
the Constitutionalist Party was established. Now there is a place where those who believe in
the benefits of liberty and in the Constitution as a
workable method for protecting human rights and promoting
the good of the nation can go to advocate realistic and
achievable policies for America, as well as support real
solutions to the problems faced by Americans today
without eroding their rights or fostering dependency on
the State.
