Small Munsterlander Pointer

-- Angel pointing pigeon at 10 1/2 months --
Angel is a wonderful dog and served very well as our foundation bitch. She produced four litters with two different males, Amos von Sengpiel and DeJong's Kain. Gunwood's A Litter was by Amos and Gunwood's C, D, and E Litters were by Kain. In all she produced 33 puppies. Of course she is retired from breeding and doesn't get to hunt much anymore as she has a disk problem and I do not want to risk further injury. She now seems pretty content with the role as the alpha house dog, although she sometimes goes out back and tracks some of the critters in our woods.
She was quite the pain during her teen months, but now she has calmed down. She runs big, points hard, and has a super nose. She is very strong willed, although this is usually good, it means I constantly have to be on top of her or she will think she is taking over control. We are beginning training for the Utility Test.

Angel had her first litter on February 20, 2000. She and Amos produced ten beautiful puppies, six females and four males. There is more information on this breeding on the Gunwood Kennel page and the "A" Litter page.
We subsequently bred Angel to DeJong's Kain "Thor II" to produce Gunwood's C, D, and E litters. These breedings produced outstanding results. Most notable was the "C" litter, of which six dogs were tested, all handled by amateurs, with three of those being first-time NAVHDA handlers. This litter was one of the two best litters ever tested in NAVHDA natural ability testing with the following results: NA Prize I, 112 points; NA Prize I, 112 points; NA Prize I, 110 points; NA Prize I, 108 points; NA Prize I, 108 points; and NA Prize II, 95 points. These six pups averaged 107.5 points! Two of the pups were not tested. Pups that were tested from the "D" and "E" litters did equally well. Information on this breeding can be found on the "C" Litter page. We are very proud of this breeding and thank Mick and Gail Jensen for giving us the opportunity. Some of the pups from these litters are starting to prove the quality of the breeding and the ancestry. Gunwood's Chance v Kain (Max) owned by Tom Sowder in Oklahoma became the youngest Small Munsterlander to earn a maximum natural ability score at 6 months and one week! Max bred a litter last year and we are waiting to see how these develop. Cora was bred this winter to our Gunwood's Barney v Bud. See the "F" Litter page.
