Up cycle Knitting and Crochet

Knit and crochet new life into old stuff. Students will Learn how to prepare “up cycle yarn” from plastic bags, old clothes & fabrics, video tape, etc. to make a reusable shopping bag, bottle carrier or small purse.

Skill level: Intermediate; students should have basic knitting and crochet experience.

Tuition: $100

Paper or Plastic? Neither! - Sewing Reusable Bags

Workshop participants will transform old clothing (i.e. shorts, pants, t-shirts, dress shirts) into sturdy reusable bags for shopping, knitting, etc. Students will bring clothes, along with fabric scraps, trims and notions they may have around the house to create “functional fabric collage” tote bags.

Skill level: Intermediate; students should have basic sewing experience.

November 14 & 15,

All That Glitters - Crochet Wire Jewelry

Using new or recycled wire, students will learn stitch designs and patterns for making bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, add beads, and use increase and decrease stitches for shaping. Most students will complete at least one bracelet in the workshop. Pattern instructions for more advanced designs will be demonstrated.

Skill level: Intermediate; students should have basic crochet experience.

December 5 & 6,

Saturday & Sunday, 9:am - 4:pm, both days

Beginning Knitting – Free Form Sampler

Students will learn how to cast on, make basic knitting stitches, and bind off, then pick up stitches on one edge of a swatch and start a new stitch sample. Basic stitches include stockinet, rib, garter, seed stitch, and more stitches if time permits. Students will learn free-form style and how to read knitting patterns and abbreviations.

Skill level: Beginner; no prior experience needed.

Trash to Treasures; Basketry With Recycled Material

Learn how to start, build, and shape a coiled “basket” piece using recycled plastic bags and waxed linen thread; how to incorporate found objects into a coiled basket; how to finish a coiled piece.

Skill level: Beginner; no prior experience needed.
