John Potterat, one of the country's leading epidemiologists, has worked in STD/HIV control since 1968, first with the CDC's syphilis eradication program and, subsequently, with the health department in Colorado Springs, where he focused on community STD/HIV transmission dynamics; on the configuration of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV sexual networks; on contact tracing initiatives; and on the epidemiology of prostitution. His continuing interest is the epidemiology of AIDS in Africa.
