O... M... G... We WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /me screams and jumps up and down uncontrollably...
Heh.. just in case you didn't know, Korea won it's FIFA World Cup Quarter Final match against Spain on Friday night. I was in Korea-town in downtown Los Angeles in a large parking lot converted into a viewing area. The Korean Association in LA had designated this and a few other major places for group viewing of the game Friday night. It was amazing, afterward I heard there were 5000 people in the area I was in alone. I have NEVER seen so many Koreans gathered together in LA. Everyone was wearing red t-shirts saying "BE THE REDS!" Korean flags were everywhere. There were even a few non-Koreans in red swag with GO KOREA face paint ^^ It was an amazing night. Just looking over the sea of red and everyone chanting "Dae Han Min Gook!!" (which means Republic of Korea) and singing "Ohhhh Pil Sung Ko-re-a!!!" (ie: Korea's sure to win!) There were news vans all over and people generally making fools out of themselves in the spirit of the evening. World Cup Fever is definately evident in k-town. People are driving around with Korean and US flags hanging off their windows. Businesses are giving away "BE THE REDS!" swag... If you didn't catch it.. we went into double overtime scoreless and the game was settled during penalty kicks. The entire crowd erupted.. I was getting hugs from random strangers. I couldn't stop screaming and jumping up and down. It's just all so contagious. I have to say I was really impressed with the way the crowd behaved. Los Angeles is kind of known for victory celebration riots. o.O It was so awesome to see everyone pick up all the trash and just celebrate joyfully w/o causing any problems. It was crazy, people in red with Korean flags were just swarming the streets yelling "GO KOREA!"at each other. The LAPD were all about to block off certain streets where ppl had gathered and keep the peace. Even they had korean flags and face stickers!!!
In order for you to understand what all the noise is about you need to know a few things. Korea hasn't won a single world cup game since 1954ish and now we're in the semi-finals. It's a miracle, and we actually have a really good team this year. We are the first asian team to make it to semi's. We are the first non-south american/european team to make it to semi's in something like 50 years. We beat Portugal, Italy, and Spain and we are the underdogs. It's just a miracle. I think even if we lose this upcoming match against Germany, Koreans will be happy. The goal this year was to just win a single game. ^^
The next game is against Germany in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. Korean Ass. of LA is renting out The Staples Center so everyone can watch the game. I am SO there!!!! Work tomorrow is going to be painful, hehehe walk into work and wash off the red and blue paint. >.< I'm going to have a heck of a time explaining that. ha!

**UPDATE** It's not going to be at Staples.. they wouldn't be ready until 4:30am.. and that's when the game starts. Looks like it's in the parking lot of the Experian bldg again. ^^
