FOR THIS WORD PROBLEM EXERCISE, IT IS BEST TO HAVE A BOX OF CHANGE (money).  READ THE WORDS CAREFULLY, FOR THERE IS A TRICK WORD HERE.
  1. There were 5 coins on the table that added to 42 cents.  Tell me what coins were on the table.
  2. I have 2 dimes, 3 nickels, and four more other coins that are all the same.  The total is less than 75 cents but more than 50 cents.   What could the other coins be?
  3. On the table I have one quarter, twice as many dimes as quarters, twice as many nickels as dimes and quarters together, and twice as many pennies as quarters, nickels, and dimes together.  How much money do you have on the table?
  4. Tom walked 6 miles from home to the store and then walked 2 miles back toward home.  He found that he forgot to get a loaf of bread so he walked back to the store again.  Tom got on the bus to go home.  Then Tom remembered that he needed toothpaste too so he walked 5 miles back to the store and then he started home again, but got a ride after he had walked half way home.  How many miles did Tom walk?
