He Cried

A child cried for his dog one day,
Hurt and bleeding and dying he lay.
God came and touched the bowed down head,
"I'm with you always in grief." He said.

The child asked "God, have you ever cried?"
"Many times, child", God replied.
"I cry for the sins I see every day.
I cry for the souls that have gone astray.

I cry for the selfish lust for greed.
And I cry for the sick and those in need."
The child was shamed to weep for his dead.
"Your grief is greater than mine." he said.

And God said "Child, your tears are good.
I bid you cry, 'tis right you should.
You were given grief a child can bear.
Together we'll cry, our tears we'll share.

[ OK it is to cry and morn, this cleans the soul,
For to love one another takes no toll. ]
Thus in man's heart is compassion unfurled.
You cry for your dog. I'll cry for the world."
