| History of the Sweet Family of Rhode
Island by Florence Sweet Wetzel; LDS Film 1035 638 John Sweet "of London" came to Salem, MA in 1630. He was born in 1579, probably in Hackney, Middlesex, England (possibly in Oxton or Modbury, Devon 1595). Died May 15 or June 6, 1637. He married Mary Perian in England. Children born in England:
"Ship Lists": John Sweet and wife Mary, s sons and a daughter, came on ship "The Mary and John", sailed from Plymouth March 20, 1630, one of Winthrop's Fleet. Arrived Nantucket May 31, 1630. John was one of the first purchasers of Providence, RI in 1637. From "The Greene Family" by Lora S LaManse: John Sweet went with Rodger Williams to Providence [RI] in 1636. |
