| The Sheboygan Press - Monday, July 2, 1951 John Maersch Sr., retired assistant treasurer of the
Vollrath company, died suddenly Sunday morning at St. Nicholas hospital. He was 79
years old. Born February 4, 1872 in Germany, he came to the United States with his
parents, Jacob and Fredricka Marnet Maersch, who settled her 64 years ago. Mr.
Maersch attended the local schools and graduated from the Sheboygan Business
college. He was a member of the Vollrath company's 50-Year club being affiliated
with the concern for 51 years. At the time of his retirement on 1938, he was the
assistant treasurer of the company. Since then he made his home at 1324 N. Sixth
street. Mr. Maersch's marriage to Miss Olive Liebl was solemnized at Holy Name
church by the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. Dominic F. Thill on June 20, 1907. She died August
13, 1948. A faithful member of Holy Name church, he was affiliated with the Holy
Name society of the parish, the Knights of Columbus and the KC's Fourth Degree
assembly. Survivors are four sons, William J., Sheboygan, Lt. Col. John M., with the
army in Korea, and Robert E. and Arthur G. of Milwaukee; a daughter Miss Olive Marie, at
home; four grandchildren, and two brothers, Frank P., Sheboygan, and Henry, Fort Worth,
Tex. In addition to his wife, one brother and two sisters preceded him in
death. Funeral services will be held 9:30 am. Wednesday at Gerend's Funeral
home, and at 10 am. with a solemn requiem high mass at Holy Name church. Burial
will be in the family lot in Calvary cemetery. The body will lie in state at the
funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening. Members of the Ushers society of Holy
Name parish, the Holy Name society and the Knights of Columbus will hold a joint vigil at
the funeral home at 7pm. Tuesday. |
