Karen Loftus

 

Karen grew up in Chicago, IL, and received a B.S degree from the College of Charleston, majoring in Marine Biology.  She was commissioned in the US Navy in 1981 and is now a CAPT in the Navy reserves.  After leaving active duty and spending a few years home with her children, Karen decided to pursue a second career and received her law degree from George Mason University.  She has served as an Assistant Commonwealths Attorney in Fairfax County, Virginia, and now works as a civilian attorney in the Department of Defense, Office of Military Commissions. 

 

Karen is married to Brion Loftus, who has retired from active US Navy service, and has three wonderful children, Finn, Rosie and Abby.  She has one great cat, Seamus.

 

Karen began clogging in 2003 and is the director of the advanced dance team.  She is the Deputy Director of Patchwork and serves on the Patchwork Board.  She has danced since the age of five, concentrating in ballet, tap and jazz.  She taught aerobics and ran long distance for many years.  Although she enjoys a variety of needlework crafts and art forms, Karen’s passion is for quilting.  She belongs to the Burke and Fairfax Chapters of Quilter’s Unlimited, Northern Virginia, and makes many quilts for family and friends.
