Disability Organizations and Resources

- Note: Most of these resources are free and useful from anywhere
in the country. Those listed have either useful fulltext information, useful
collections of links, or useful contact information. If you don't find
what you want here, chances are one of these sites links to it, or to another
site that does. Most of these resources are activist, meaning that their
resources are geared to gaining the necessary access to use one's full
abilities. If you know of other links, please send as many as you have
to the link librarian. We
take downloaded pages of links, bookmark files, favorite lists, whatever
you've got.

Disability-Related LISTSERVs and Chat Rooms ( contact info list
) -- via U. of Maryland
A "Listserv" is a discussion by email, or
a newsletter by email, usually free and open to the public. On a discussion
list, you can reply either to individual members or to all subscribers
at once. Some lists are moderated, i.e. all messages get cleared through
a moderator. Other lists are unmoderated, meaning that anything you send
is delivered to everyone almost instantly. . Some LISTSERVs provide expert
information. Others are mainly user-to-user discussions, where information
may or may not be correct.
You do not need full Internet access to use a LISTSERV,
just a free email account at one of the search engines, which you can usually
access through your public library
