I thought maybe that working smaller would enable me to make more paintings. Nope. At 8"x10", this is by far the smallest of the lot, but that didn't make it any easier. At that size (in fact, this is the only one in the batch in which the image is just about life-sized), each brushstroke becomes more critical, so I spent a lot of time steadying my right hand with my left. I also went through a few 000 brushes. Anyway, it packs a punch for a little guy. As usual, something in it gave me an idea for another painting — in this case, the way the light falls off at the bottom, which lends it a sharp, sculptural feel. I really went overboard with this kind of effect in #8.
