(Summary By Zack S.)
On Friday February 20, we left the church for Charleston, South Carolina. We had a pleasant trip down, stopping
to eat our dinners at a rest stop along the way. We arrived in Charleston after a few hours and spent Friday night in a motel
near Patriot's Point - the actual location of the Yorktown. We got up bright and early Saturday morning for a great breakfast
at the Hardee's across the street before heading to the ship. We arrived about an hour before we were scheduled to board,
and spent the time taking group pictures and absorbing the sights. Once the time came, we and the other groups who would be
staying on the Yorktown Saturday night boarded the aircraft carrier. There was a short orientation meeting before we were
shown our bunking area, and once we got settled in we split up into groups of two or three people to explore the ship. All
afternoon, most of the scouts and some of the leaders were working on an information scavenger hunt that took them around
to visit all the museum centers on the Yorktown itself, as well as the submarine, destroyer, and Coast Guard Cutter that were
part of the facility. In about mid-afternoon, the troop took a ferry ride to nearby Fort Sumter, where we spent an hour or
so looking around at the relics from the Civil War before taking the return ferry. Back at the Yorktown, most continued working
on the scavenger hunt while others just enjoyed the self-guided tours through the different parts of the ship. Saturday evening
we had dinner in the ship's mess hall, and then had a ship-wide fire drill not long afterwards. After a little more time spent
exploring, the call came to return to bunking areas for lights out. Waking up Sunday morning, we had an excellent breakfast
on-ship before leaving for home. Everybody had a wonderful time, and thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
