The bill would have required the University to
place filters on its computers to prevent students from accessing
"sexually explicit sites." It got out of committee, but died on
the floor of the legislature.

The University's acceptable use policy states "do not use
computer systems to send, post, or display offensive, abusive,
slanderous, vulgar, or defamatory messages, texts, graphics, or
images." This is one kind of acceptable use policy, emphasizing
penalties for offensiveness, a term which can only be defined as
"what someone feels insults his/her beliefs and values." For
