         the big fUn philharmonic

the big fUn philharmonic is a large ensemble inspired by the big bands of Duke Ellington, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, and Jon Jang, among others. The fact that large ensembles continue to emerge despite the economic difficulties of supporting such a project reflects the importance of creating a musical community where musicians can receive the creative support they need from their peers. From this environment a unique and representative group sound can develop and grow. the big fUn philharmonic is Chan's contribution to this lineage of musical community.

The big fUn philharmonic is: Leon Lee -flute; Aaron Bennett - clarinet, soprano, alto, baritone saxophones; Jeff Chan - bass clarinet, tenor saxophone; Darren Johnston - trumpet, flugelhorn; Kimara - piano; Adam Lane - contrabass; Milo Francis - drums; others TBA

the big fUn philharmonic was made possible by a grant from the Asian American Arts Foundation.
