In the spring of 2004, I traveled to northern Minnesota with some girlfriends
from church. It was a wonderful weekend filled with the typical women's weekend activites. Before dinner on Saturday
night Ellen, Jenny and I were enjoying a glass of wine out on the deck of the resturant. Somehow in our conversation
we turned to the topic of parenting.
Not being a parent, I rarely have much to add to these conversations.
This one however was different. Ellen said to me, "You'd make a great mom. There is a little girl in China with
your name on her." Of course this became the humor of our dinner. I was going to adopt, and Jenny would have another
so we could have kids the same age. (Jenny already has two older kids). Well as funny as the conversation was
that night, I couldn't get the thought out of my head.
I had to start researching this thing called adoption. The next 6
months were an incredible discernment process. Was I really being called to be a mother? Or was this just a fleeting
thought. Well, I guess you know the answer to my discernment.
