View of planned new permanent monitor across the street from the east endof the runway; looking to the East at Bundy Drive
(West Los Angeles)
This is a depiction of how it will look.

Two new permanent noise monitors on either end of the runway are soon to be operating. The first to start operating in June, will be on the East side of 23rd Street at Navy Street in Santa Monica's Sunset Park. The second will be on the East side of Bundy Drive where 2828 Bundy Drive would be, in West Los Angeles, intersecting at the Clarkson Road cul-de-sac. I want to thank  Matthew Majoli, Operations & Noise Manager at Santa Monica Airport, for keeping me informed and sending the photos and the map showing the location of the new monitor on Bundy Drive.
As Matt points out in his letter to me, these monitors will not be used in an official capacity to measure noise violations, but rather they will allow airport staff to get a better perspective of noise impacts coming from the airport.

Marty:

Thanks for your interest in the New Noise Monitor "RMS06" to be located at 2828 Bundy Drive South in West Los Angeles

Attached are the site photos/renderings that were submitted to the LA Cultural Affairs Office & Above Ground Facilities Permit Office for approval.  To date, the project has been approved by the LA Cultural Affairs Commission, and is now in final stages of approval by the Above Ground Facilities Permit Office.  The next step will be a building permit which we expect to obtain in the next few weeks.  Construction will begin shortly thereafter; sometime in late June or July.

As you are aware the new monitor to be installed on Bundy Drive South cannot be used for enforcement of the 95 dB SENEL maximum allowable noise limit; it can be used to help us better understand the noise generated at this particular end of the runway, and more importantly be used to identify the 65 CNEL Annual Contour Line.  It is also important to know that we have already completed the installation of a new monitor on the West side of the airport on 23rd Street which will begin service next month serving in the same capacity of the monitor installed on Bundy Drive South.

Please feel free to post or forward the above information on your community website and to members of your community.

Respectfully,
