I have given and received many special gifts over the years, but receiving gifts is not as special as giving them as I have learned.
The most special gift I have given is to the homeless and needy. During the holiday season of 1995, the Weymouth food pantry sent letters to the families of Weymouth asking them to help the poor, homeless, and needy. The pantry asked for gifts of food or clothing so they could help these people have a nice holiday. My first thought was, "Why would we help people like this?" But my mom convinced me to come to the pantry and help give out food and clothing. When we got to the pantry, I was put straight to work organizing boxes of food and clothing. When we were all done organizing the boxes, we went to deliver the boxes, and I met some pretty fascinating people. After we had returned home, it struck me that I had done a good deed and I had had fun doing it.
Now I really understood that it is much better to give than to receive, especially ifyou are giving something special and are helping people why doing it.
