Having Our Say
Having Our Say - The Delaney Sisters This book was awesome. I completely loved it. What was so wonderful about it is that the people in the book were the funniest, down to Earth, and truthful people that I have ever read about. From reading this book I learned what it really meant to be black. Hey, sure, I've heard about slavery and all, and being black, I'm expected to know a lot about it, but I really don't. It was so amazing reading about their lives back then. Though both of the Delaney sisters are now dead, I think they should be forever remembered because they opened up their hearts and minds and told us their life stories.

A Spell for Chameleon
This novel by Piers Anthony is one of the best fantasy stories I've read. If you are a Harry Potter fan or not, this is a good book to become immersed in. With 344 pages, it will last awhile.

This story takes place in a place called Xanth, an enchanted land where every citizen has a special spell only he can cast. It was a land of centaurs, dragons, and basilisks. It was a place where magic ruled.

Bink is the main character. He is a well-built person who is cautious. Blink lives in Xanth where he is a big mess; he has no magic! This was a very bad thing because you are exciled to the outer world of Mundania if you have no magic. That's not as bad as being made fun of and out-classed by other people who do have magic.

Read about Blink and his adventures as he sets out in search of his own magic. He encounters, dragons, and mistresses of illusion. A Spell for Chameleon is sure to be a ride that will change your way of thinking.

The Wave
This book The Wave does not concern a ship, ocean, or even a wave. This book is about a high school class with a very charismatic teacher. This very charismatic Mr. Ross used his intelligence . He thought he could put on an acting like a world leader to teach a lesson(like a Adolf Hitler). After a while he got caught up into to much and kids started to skip classes to go to his. This little plan started in 1 class but ended up in the around school. So he knew personally he had to stop this crazy education so he held a assembly. This assembly stopped the hole thing and got some kids back into reality. This book is a true story. The wave inspired me because it said learn and listen not to talk and hurt yourself.

The Woman In the Wall
When I first saw The Woman In the Wall by Patrice Kindl, I thought the cover looked boring, and I decided that I would get to reading it after I finished all my other books. I couldn't have been more wrong. I loved it so much I read it four times. It's about a girl named Anna who when she was seven years old decided that she didn't want to go to school because she was too shy. She didn't handle it like most shy little girls would. Anna decided to make the small secret passageways in her huge Victorian mansion into her new home. I enjoyed reading about Anna's seven years living in the walls all alone, and how she put her shyness behind her when it was time to come out.

Even though this book doesn't have a big gold sticker on the cover, and it isn't well known, it deserves to be. I loved this book, and I'm sure you would enjoy it too.

Goodnight, Mr. Tom
A novel that I read in Ms. Smith's class was Goodnight, Mr. Tom. When I first saw the book, I thought it was going to be a dull story and that I would not enjoy reading it. Boy was Iwrong! It turned out that I really enjoyed the book! I never thought that it would be as exceptional as it was! The people and places in the book are so well described that I could easily imagine them in my mind. I highly urge that other people read this story, as it is very enjoyable, and I hope Ms. Smith continues to share this novel with her future students.

To Kill A Mockingbird
Out of all the books I have read and enjoyed in my life time, the one I found to be my favorite was To Kill A Mockingbird. This extraordinary novel by Harper Lee was a story of a family who was growing up during a time when some people were very racist. Scout, the main character, had many obsticals to overcome, and she grows up a lot throughout the novel.

I really enjoyed reading this novel about tragedy, kindness, and the love of a family. I suggest this book to other students who are looking for a novel to keep them interested and one that they will remember forever.

The Wave
Over all of the many books that I have read in my lifetime, my favorite book would definitely be The Wave. I read it in the seventh grade in my reading class , and I found it very enjoyable to read. I often even found myself reading more than I was assigned because I had gotten so carried away by it. The book is really well written, and it makes things seem so real. You feel as if you could be one of the characters, or as if you knew them personally. After reading it the first time, I wanted to read it again and again because no matter how many times I've read it, it still holds my interest. I will discover new things in it, and I will see the meaning of the novel more clearly.

So in conclusion, The Wave is my all-time favorite book, and I higly recommend that other students read it.

Call of the Wild My all-time favorite book was Call of the Wild by Jack London This was my favorite book because the main character, a dog, was telling the story. The setting was during the Gold Rush in the west. During the Gold Rush, strong dogs were brought and sent north to Canada to pull sleds across the snow. People would buy strong dogs so they would go faster and get to a gold mine first. Then they would take the gold with them south to exchange for money.

A dog with an easy life who lived in southern California was sold by his master. He went from master to master until he ended up in the north country and that is when this dog's true adventure begins. At a trading post he is sold as a sled dog. While pulling a heavy sled through inclement conditions, he learned many painful things about survival, and this turns him gradually more wild. Day by day, he gets more desperate.

Call of the Wild. was my favorite book because it is truly suspenseful. This book is right for you if you like action and adventure. This book was so exciting when I read it, that I would lose all track of time, and an hour would go by without me noticing. This is why I strongly recommend you read this book.

The Giver
If I had to select one novel I have read over all the rest as my favorite, I would have to choose Lois Lowry's The Giver. This is the only book that I've ever read that, if I could go back and change anything in it, I wouldn't change a single thing. It's almost completely irreproachable.

I began reading this book at school in my seventh grade reading class. From the moment I opened up the book, I could tell it was going to be a good one; it was. In class that day we read the first two chapters. I immediately became hooked on it, and I couldn't put it down. As soon as I got home from school that day, I went into my room and started reading it again. I was only planning on reading for a few minutes because I had a lot of homework, but I was surprised when I looked at my clock and realized I'd been reading for almost two hours. I read a lot more that night and finished the book the next day.

The Giver is a well-written book all around. It's intriguing, suspenseful, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I could never tell what was going to happen next. Every type of emotion was displayed in the book. I experienced everything tht characters did from complete bewilderment to compIete understanding. I actually felt like I was a part of the book.

Probably the most important part of any book is its ending. Without a clear ending, a story can not be considered finished. It is the dearest thing in a reader's mind after they have read a hook. The ending ran really make or break a story. In the case of The Giver, the ending makes the whole book worthwhile to read. That is definitely the number one reason why I chose this book as my favorite. The ending to The Giver is like no other. When you read the last few pages, you get this indescribable feeling, it's almost as if you've known Jonah, the main character, for all your life, and everything is finally coming to a satisfying close. When you finish the book, you get the sense that the book is complete and it doesn't leave you hanging.

Out of all the books that I have read, I'd have to say The Giver is at the top of the list. It's well-written, suspenseful, creative, and, most importantly, has a great ending.

The Witches
The best book of all time is definitely The Witches, craftily written by the English author, Roald Dahl. This is a story about witches pretending to be nice, average women, and the boy and his grandmother who try to stop them. I have read this book easily over fifteen times. It just seems to keep calling me back to read it again. It might be the playful humor or the creative style of Roald Dahl.

The Witches has won many awards including, the Whitebread Award and an AlLA Notable Book . Every time I read about the putrid head witch, I quiver . The description is so detailed. The author, Roald Dahl, makes you feel like yout are looking at the real thing. You create a mental image of her in your head so vivid that it's scary! Maybe that is why I keep on reading it.

Another of Roald Dahl's great characteristics is his humorous writing ability. Who else could come up with the word scrumdiddlyumptious? And who could ever make up a charter like the boy's grandmother. Who has a grandmother that smokes cigars?

Another great aspect of The Witches is the one of a kind illustrations by Quentin Blake. The best ones are at the witches convention! Every one has a book they absolutely love and mine is The Witches by Roald Dahl.

The Wave
The kind of books I like to read are the ones that I can really relate to. The Wave is a perfect example. Aside from being my favorite book, The Wave really made me feel as if I was there. It is kind of hard to explain, but I enjoyed this book because of the characters and the setting. They were all teenagers just like me and I really like that kind of setting when there is a high school and teenagers with problems just like my peers and I have. The Wave is a book about a class who gets taught about Hitler and how he was a leader and all the negative things he accomplished. The teens thought it was unfair and cruel so they made up a kind of cult and even had their own sign. Now this cult started as kind of a game but in a matter of days, it had almost everyone in the school following its rules. If you weren't with it, you would get beat up! Soon this was getting out of hand, so it had to be stopped and the teacher that started it ended it soon after it started! That was the end of that nonsense!

This book really made me understand what it means to be part of a cult. I enjoyed reading everything these kids did! They were crazy! I Iike those kind of books. I think that this is a book that all teenagers would enjoy reading because they can really put themselves into the characters' places. The Wave really had a little bit of romance in it too. I love books that have some kind of romance, The Wave's romance was your typical high school relationship. But it was still great!

The Wave by is far my favorite book that I've ever read. I really recommend it!

Daniel's Story
I have read many books and my favorite novel is Daniel's Story about a Jewish, twelve year old boy who is suffering through WWII. It was a touching story, and it told about his life through this period. It described how he miraculously survived it.

Daniel's Story is definitely a book that I would recommend to others. It deals with courage and faith. Daniel lost his entire family. They were either taken away, beaten to death, or died in the brutal concentration camps. It was a miracle that he actually survived.

Daniel's Story is a page-turner. I read it in reading class and could not put it down. Not only did this book have an influence on me, but it also taught me about how hard the times were during WWII. I never even realized what life was like for some people back then. I felt as if I was a part of the story. It was that touching. I recommend Daniel's Storyfor readers of any age. This story had a great influence on me as it will on other readers. It was an extraordinary story.

Reach for the Stars
I've read a lot of books in my life, but one of my favorites was Reach for the Summit by Pat Summit. I like this book because I love basketball. Pat Summit is the coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vals. In this book, not only does she write about the Lady Vals, but she writes about how to be a good sport whether you win or lose. The book had a chapter about respecting yourself, your team, and others. It also told about how to improve your game, mentally and physically.

I like the title Reach for the Summit, because even though, it is only four words, they're four very important words. It means that you should go as high as you can go. You should keep working on things that you have trouble with. Underneath the title, it says, "The Definite Dozen System for Succeeding at Whatever You Do." This book should help you succeed in basketball and in the most important thing . . . life.

Brian's Winter
My all time favorite novel was a book called Brian's Winter by Gary Paulsen. It is the sequel to Hatchet, a story about a boy who was stranded in the wilderness for almost two months. At the end of the book, Brian, the main character, was found by a passing plane. Brian's Winter was about what could have happened if Brian was not found and had to survive on his own through the harsh Canadian winter with a hatchet, a bucknife, and a .22 caliber rifle, and whatever he could find and build. I am a fan of books like that because I enjoy the outdoors. I have a "Boy Scout lost in the woods" sort of mind set. I thought that Brian's Winter was well written, very descriptive, and had a strong plotline. I loved Brian's Winter, as well as the other books in the series. They are smart, enjoyable, and great stories.

These are my reasons why I think this was one of the most exciting, enjoyable books I have ever read.

The Outsiders
I will be honest with you; I hate reading. I have only liked about two or three books ever. My favorite one was The Outsiders. It was the only book I actually read in one day. It was about a bunch of teenagers in gangs. They always stayed on their side of the tracks until one day, one of their gang members kills a member of another gang. You will have to read this awesome book to find out if they go on a killing spree, if they all get arrested or if they just run away from everything in their lives. Read this book. Trust me; you will like it.

Good Night, Mr. Tom
I thought I was going to have to be forced to read Good Night, Mr. Tom by my English teacher. Boy, was I wrong! I loved that book so much that I even read it a second time. This book was about a boy in England during WW2. The boy was a refugee who was sent to live at Mr. Tom's house in Little Weirworld. Once I picked up the book I could hardly put it down! I could not wait to get home from school to read that book! Well, I hope you love the book as much as I did! Enjoy!!

Both Sides of Time
The novel, Both Sides of Time, written by Caroline B. Clooney is what I reckon to be the most well-composed book I ever read. It is about a girl who travels through time, making both centuries worse, not better. No matter which way she travels, she must abandon someone she loves. The novel focuses on romance, time-travel fantasy, and a murder mystery.

If you enjoy reading about these topics , I suggest that you try this book. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. It seemed as though it locked onto me. The more I read, the less I wanted to stop reading. This is definitely what I would consider to be a classic. If you are ever looking for a good book to curl up with, choose Both Sides of Time. I guarantee you'll love it without a doubt.

In These Girls Hope Is A Muscle
If you like a story about never giving up and basketball, then you will enjoy In These Girls Hope Is A Muscle by Madeline Blais. This is a very good book about the Amherst High girls' basketball team in 1992-94. I felt like I really got to know the girls on the team and their dreams. I also got to know about their personal lives and feelings about each other. This is one of those books that you can't put down until it's done. Even though it's one hundred percent true, it flows like a novel. You can tell that it is true because one of the girls, Jamila Wideman, went on to play in the W.N.B.A. I really enjoyed this book and I give it two thumbs way up. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! ! ! !

The Client
My reading suggestion would be The Client by John Grisham. I enjoyed this book so much because it involves a boy about my age who witnesses a suicide and gets involved with both the F.B.I. and the mob. I also liked the book because it was a mystery and there was a lot of suspense. Once I started reading, I just couldn't put the book down. This book was also the biggest book I've read, and I felt a great sense of accomplishment when I finished reading it. I recommend this book to good readers who like suspense. I guarantee you will love The Client just as much as I did.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Of all the books I've read so far, one in particular stands out. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a phenomenal book. The author of this book is Betty Smith, and it's about a young girl growing up in the slums of Brooklyn in the early nineteen hundreds. It tells about all her problems and her triumphs. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to read. I couldn't put it down !

Where the Sidewalk Ends
Out of all of the books I have read in my life, I would probably recommend Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. I have read this book of poems ever since I was about three or four years old. I happen to like reading poems, especially comical ones. This book is filled with funny poems for both children and adults. Also if you don't like long poems, this book has short poems as well. Anyone who likes poems will definitely enjoy this book. I recommend this book for people of all ages.

Sports Illustrated
When I sit down to read a good magazine, it is usually Sports Illustrated. Sports Illustrated always has the best and most current sports news. It deals with all sports from the WNBA to professional lacrosse. They always cover big events such as The Superbowl, The World Series, and The Stanley Cup. I enjoy reading the departments like "lnside the NFL" by Peter King or "Inside the NBA" by Jackie MacMullan. I can remember sitting down to read my first S.I. when I was eight years old, and I have been in love with this magazine ever since. I think that anybody who likes sports even the littlest bit would enjoy this magazine and should go out and buy one!

Dreadful Sorry
A good quality book is not very easy to find these days. Many authors write the same plot over and over and over again, change the characters' names, slap a new cover and illustrations on it, and publishers call it "the number one best-selling book!" Well, that does not happen with Kathryn Reiss's Dreadful Sorry. If you like books with plots that will grab your attention in the first chapter and details that just scream out to you, then this book is perfect for you! This book has it all: reoccurring dreams, early sung songs, flashbacks, possible murders, and disappearances, and many more interesting twists and turns as the plot unwinds.

I truly enjoyed this book because Reiss's style of writing is extremely tantalizing, mouth-watering, pleasantly puzzling, spellbinding, and incredibly satisfying. Once the book is in your hands, you will not let go until you have concluded reading this 340 page wonder. In closing, if you are a mystery-lover or a romance-lover, then this book is absolutely perfect for you. So enjoy your free time while it lasts, because once you pick this book up, you will not have any left!

In Line Magazine
In Line Magazine is the best magazine in the world. As soon as you open it up, you are at The Post. The Post is where people send letters to the magazine. If you keep turning pages, you will come to The Method. This section will teach you new tricks. After you study The Method, you will go on to the Gallery where you will find pictures of your favorite pro skaters. This magazine is perfect for someone who loves rollerblading and doing tricks.

A Farewell to Arms
Thinking back all the way to second grade, I would probably remember every good book I ever read. Whether it was Stuart Little or Sniper I liked them because they were exciting, tragic, or funny. My favorite type of books to read is historical fiction. I've read every book on World War II that was ever put on the shelf. The first World War I book I read was A Farewell to Arms and it is the very best book I have ever read.

A Farwell to Arms was written by Ernest Hemingway and is based upon what happened to him when he went off to war. It's a story of romance, tragedy, and war. It's about two people in love who are broken apart by war. They say war changes your life forever and they are right. If you read this book, you will never guess the ending If you like tragedy and romance, this is the classic for you. A Farewell to Arms is a compelling story of romance and tragedy.

Dragon's Blood.
My favorite book is Dragon's Blood. It is a science fiction book which relates to kids.

It is about a boy named Jakkin that steals a dragon from his master. He raises the dragon in an oasis and teaches it how to fight.

This book is great and I don't even like reading. Even if you don't like science fiction, I encourage you to read this book. Every page is filled with excitement, and I know you will enjoy it.

Golden Compass.
If I had to recommend a good book to anyone, it would be Phillip Pullman's Golden Compass. This book takes place in a place much like Earth, but with witches, demons, and all sorts of magic. A small girl and her demon must fulfill destiny to save countless other children. If you like fantasy books, you'll love the Golden Compass. This is the first book in a trilogy. Pick it up at a bookstore near you.

Killing Mr. Griffin
Do you enjoy thrilling books? Well, if you do then you will love Lois Duncan's Killing Mr. Griffin. Even if you don't like mysteries or thrillers, you should still read it. It is a page turner, and you'll always want to know what is going to happen next. If you start the book, you won't want to put it down. You get pulled into the book, and you won't stop reading it until you're done. You will just keep wanting to know more information and before you know it you will finish the book and be happy that you have read such a good book. I recommend this book because I used to hate reading, and this book showed me that there are books out there that aren't so boring after all.

Song of the Buffalo Boy
by Sherry Garland
Song of the Buffalo Boy was very interesting. It taught me a lot about the poor Amerasian children left behind after the Vietnam war. They suffered a lot from the predjudice and put downs. I never knew much about this topic, and now I feel I know a lot. The reading was smooth, easy and enjoyable. I suggest that you read this book for pleasure as well as knowledge.

Singularity
My favorite book is Singularity by Avi. When I first read this book, I was in seventh grade. I was a person who hated to read. When the teacher forced me to read Singularity , it looked like it was going to be a fantasy with fairies, but it was really science fiction. If you're a person who likes science fiction and a little mystery, I would recommend this book, and even if you don't like this type of book, try it anyway!

The Confederate Navy
My favorite book is called The Confederate Navy by Philip Van Doren Stern. It is about the battles, ships, and the men in the Confederate Navy. It tells about the death of the Alabama and the victories of the Merrimac. Most history buffs of all ages will love this book. Other books that I recommend are: The Civil War by Charles Flato, Weapons of the Civil War by William C. Davis, and my favorite magazine, Civil War Times. So if you're a history buff, these books are definitely for you!

Seventeen Magazine
My favorite magazine is Seventeen . I like this magazine because it has everything in it that you would like to read. It has short stories that are very interesting, and it also has true stories. Seventeen has stories of embarrassing moments that have happened to people. This magazine also has a little quiz you can take each month. It has many tips about boys, hair, skin, etc... At the end of the magazine, it even has your horoscope. I would recommend this magazine to every girl in the world.

Six Months to Live
My favorite book is Six Months to Live . It deals exclusively with children with leukemia. Lurlene McDaniel wrote about a girl named Dawn who has to deal with her illness and the loss of her close friend. The book talks about Dawn living in a hospital for five months.
