Poems About Poets

The Burning Within

The poet is like a fire.
His idea is a spark
Setting off his imagination.
The words in his mind burn
Like a raging inferno.
As the poet puts words to paper,
The poem expands like a fire
Being fed by fuel.
His thoughts will be extinguished,
But his words will continue to burn
In the minds of his readers.

Spider
A poet is like a spider.
He spins masterpieces among the emptiness
Filling it with glittering webs
Trapping every idea.

If his web breaks,
He can climb anywhere,
And use his talents to build a better web.
----- Stephen T.

The Immortal Warrior

A poet is a warrior,
For he battles in his mind
To discover the perfect conclusion to his work,
Just as a warrior fights the opposing forces.
His pen is his sword.
Capable of showing the power of the soul.

He lives on eternally
Because of his writings.
He melds his heart and soul.
The poem itself now shares his life.

The two co-exist,
And since the poem will never die,
The poet will not either.
Together they form
The Immortal Warrior.

Poems are like music, having a beat,
Each line representing a note
Making sure that each line is carefully tuned.
Using your imagination
Or a memory
To come up with lines.
It could be sad or humorous
Or even both.
Reading it aloud to your class
And after, you get applause.
----- Kim S.

The Prisoner
A poet is like a prisoner,
In a dark, damp cell.
His words are the shovel
Which will help him to escape.
The words which will release him
Are just outside his grasp,
He racks his brain to find the words . . . . .
He discovers them at last!
