The Piano

by Liz H.

From my grandmother's basement to mine
In the back corner, a beauty amongst the toys and clutter.

Sixty-two keys supported by a red frame,
A red frame painted with pictures.
Once happily played, now left undusted and out of tune.

From far away white keys smile
Sad and lonely as the surrounding box
A big red box holding one of life's precious treasures.

Strong and bold, as am I,
Both of us rough around some edges
Yet producing plenty of sweetness.

Comforting and beautiful like my mother,
Like my father, soft and understanding.
Its wonderful sounds make me smile
Music soothes the soul
Piano.
