Dear Parents and Guardians . . .

The following are excerpts from letters written by my present eighth graders to the parents of incoming students.

Dear Parent or Guardian,

As your child enters the junior high, I'm sure you have many questions and worries on your mind. I can tell you that when I entered this school last September, I was extremely nervous. Now, I realize there was nothing to fear. . .

. . . With all the clubs, sports, and extra activities, your child will surely be occupied. They will be in a safe and happy learning environment. The teachers here are always right there supporting their students. . . (Danielle N.)

. . . You might feel a bit apprehensive about sending your child to the junior high, but don't be. There are many choices for extracurricular activities that your child can participate in. These activities are fun and entertaining and offer something for everyone. Your child can try out for a sport, get involved in the plays that we put on each year, join the select chorus, and much more. . .

. . . It is very important to encourage your child to become involved not just academically but socially in school. In this way, your child can really feel that he or she is part of the school. . . (Lindsay S.)

Hi. . . I'm writing to assure you that the junior high is not the big, scary place that some people make it out to be. . .

There are many activities in which your child can participate. There are lots of sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and the track team. I'm almost positive that your child will find an activity that interests him or her. There is a drama club that puts on a play every spring, a talent show in the winter for your student to display his or her talents in, and a band and a chorus. Also, several school trips are planned each year. . . Your son or daughter might be worried about getting lost, considering that the junior high is pretty big. I was extremely nervous about getting lost, but I haven't gotten lost once this year. . . Although I can't guarantee it, your child shouldn't have any problems at this school. If he or she does, there are guidance counselors and other staff members for him or her to talk to. All I can say is that I was very nervous about coming here, and now I love it. I hope your child will, too! (Laura M.)
