Although the list generated by students in Team 3 was very long, these inventions received the most votes.

The invention of the century is the Internet. The Internet is a world of its own where anything is possible. It has revolutionized communication and our access to information.
The Internet, or the Net as it is sometimes called, is an outstanding communication tool. People can communicate with anyone who is connected anywhere in the world. The connection is almost instantaneous. The connection does not have to be a one-on-one conversation; you are able to converse with many people at one time. News is also dispersed or is available almost immediately after it is uploaded. The possibilities are endless.
People's access to information on the Internet is unlimited. People can look up businesses with a click of a button, and you can find out a variety of information about practically anything. People can access educational material, medical information, nutrition, and health, games, music, and the economy, just to name a few topics. The topics are only as limited as your imagination
In conclusion, the Internet is the most significant invention of the century; communication and information are just two ways that are helpful now. Who knows what the future holds for this invention?
Can you image having to get a tub of water to wash all your clothes by hand? I believe that many of you would rather wear your clothes ragged and ripe then wash your pants by hand every time you wore them! Once upon a time people did go though the agony of washing their clothes by hand, but then came the electric washing machine.
The first form of a man powered washing machine was brought to life by James King in 1851. In the early 1900s, the electric-powered washing machine was produced by the Machine Company of Chicago, Illinois.
When the electric washing machine first came out in 1908, it wasn't perfect. First, you had to have plumbing which wasn't something you would find in every household. Second, all your clothes could be soapy if you forgot to change the water. Then you would have to go through the whole process again if you had the patience.
Later on when more houses got plumbing, the washing machine was a popular household device. People also found washing machines were easier to use then corrugated washboards,
Who wouldn't want a magical machine that rinses, washes, and partially dries laundry? This appliance can also be set to wash different quantities and types of laundry. Remember . . . you can also wash your colors and whites, just make sure to keep them separate!
So the next time you see a basket full of laundry that needs to be put away, be thankful that's the only thing you have to do. You could be faced with a bigger challenge like washing your clothes by hand!
During this century, there have been many important inventions. Some, such at the television, have had a profound effect on our lives. Others, such as the air conditioner, while making us more comfortable during hot weather are really not that important. Of all the inventions of this century, I believe that the computer was the most significant. The computer with its ability to process large amounts of information in a fraction of a second has led to numerous technological advances. Computers allow us to track and steer airplanes making traveling by air safer. Computers enable meteorologists to track and predict hurricanes and tornadoes in time to warn people in their path so that they can get to safety. They have helped us in the medical field by letting us diagnose illnesses, and perform surgeries that otherwise would not be possible.Computers have numerous military applications, such as in guiding missiles, which have allowed the United States and other countries to set up defenses and protect their citizens. Computer has also allowed the FBI and police departments to keep detailed records on criminals and solve crimes. With computers being more widely used and getting smarter and faster, the future may hold unlimited possibilities. In less than fifty years, thanks to the advances in artificial intelligence, we will have computers that can think on their own. This is such a profound advancement that it may redefine the way we think of life. For these reasons, and many others, computers get my vote for invention of the century. Let's hope that they stay with us throughout the New Year and Y2K.
Tape is one of the most important things ever invented. Without tape, we would still be at the glue and paste stage. Tape makes everyone's life a little easier. There are also many kinds of tape for our many different needs. If you wanted to send a package, you could use packaging tape. If you tried to use a piece of electrical tape to hold the package together, it would fall apart the minute you picked it up. For taping something that needs to keep something in place you might use duct tape. It is strong and can be quite durable too. Then there is the transparent tape otherwise known as scotch tape. Scotch tape can be used for taping almost anything together. Other kinds of tape are masking tape , electrical, and double sided. Each one has it's own special use.
Sometimes in life we take all the inventions we have for granted. We don't stop to think about how much we need and use them in our lives. The things that we need the most are small little things that we don't tend to notice. . . at least not as much as the big things like big screen TVs. But in the end, the little things do help us more than the big things ever would.
In 1985, there were about 2000 computers on the Internet, but now there are well over nine million people on the Internet. Each month the Internet welcomes millions of new users. Some people try the Internet and say it's not for them, but that is just a tiny percentage of the nine million plus users.
The Internet isn't just a U.S. thing; people all over the world are on it. You can talk to people in Russia, Australia, Spain, France, Germany, and much, much more. The internet can do so much that it would take me a couple of days to say everything, but I'll name a few. You can download music, send electronic mail, chat with others, or even get the score of the Red Sox game.
So for all these reasons and more, I chose the Internet as the Invention of the Century.
