Camping By The Lake
Peaceful trees surrounding the narrow road
People setting up their tents,
Kids riding their bikes and playing tag
The entire place is filled with a new atmosphere.
The air, so different
No cars and loud buses
It is different but comforting.
Dirt pathways heading down to the lake
Faint sounds
As you get closer, they become clearer,
Laughing children splashing in the cool water.
Finally... you're there
Soft, squishy, sand between your toes
Someone has made a sandcastle
How long will it last?
As the sun hides beneath the trees
Lanterns glow
Campfires are starting, smoke rises up into the trees
Gooey, sweet, golden-brown marshmallows.
Searching through the darkness
Voices in the distance
Only a few fires left.
Lying in your sleeping bag
No voices to be heard
The slam of the bathroom door
Silence in the night.
