It was a warm, summer night, August 19, 2003. Kristin , just an average fifteen-year-old, was going to a party with friends. She didn't have a care in the world, until it was time to go home. Kristin and her friends had been drinking that night, but thought nothing of it. It was just a little fun, right? As they loaded into the car and took off it was all good; they'd all be home in about thirty minutes right? Wrong! Kristin did not make it home that night. It was all over the news the next morning, but no one would talk about it; no one could believe it. Kristin, the girl we all grew up with next door, was gone, dead just like that. It really was so awful to see this tragedy unfold. Even today as I write it down, I can still not bring myself to say it, let alone believe it. Kristin was my sister's best friend. She came over my house every morning before school and waking up to her smiling face was a privilege. She was one of the most beautiful people, inside and out, that I have and will ever meet.
Kristin was sent to us for guidance. Although her life was short, the meaning of it was so much more. Strangers cry about her loss just from hearing about her. Kristin taught me to live in the moment for tomorrow is never promised. She taught me that every choice as little as it can be , can change your life forever, or even end it. Kristin was the only angel on earth I have ever met.
I will never forget Kristin Carrier for as long as I live. I will always think of her for the longest time; a day doesn't go by without memory of her crossing my mind. Kristin lives on in everyone, with her words of wisdom in our minds, her laughter singing through our souls, and her smile always and forever in our hearts.
