Mathew first appears in court, Accomack Co., Va., April, 1671 where his age was judged to be eleven (done under English 1aw to "Guarantee" length of Service) as a servant boy to Daniel Jennifer. This would make a birth date of around 1671 + -. He next appears in Court in Lewes; Sussex Co., Twice, in 1682, once to obtain a Warrant of 300 acrees of land and the second time to be bound over from Richard Bundick to a Norton Claypoole. (We know the "history" of Jennifer, Bundick and Claypoole but not how Mathew fits into these families. From then on, until his death in late 1737 or early 1738 we have all kinds of records.
He married a Mary and that is a11 we know. Who was Mary??? They were married prior to 1700. Where??? We know the children names but not the birthdates or order, surely all were born early 1700's.
Children:
Jonathan married Sarah Rowland (Miers)
Mathew II married Isabella Dobson(Dodson)
Thomas married Eliphia Burdell
Henry married ???
Mary married a Hand
Matthew I purchased two hundred acres at Cool Spring and this land has changed very little up to now. In 1710, he sold the 200 acres and purchased five hundred acres. This land is where Milton now stands. Here is where he lived and died. Once again, we know little about Mary, She was named in his will, so she was alive in 1733. Milton was known as "Osborns Landing" around that time. Jonathan was a a ship builder, Thomas also built ships, Henry, we think, didn't marry. He and Thomas had a mill across one of the branches from Mathew I land and Henry also had a large piece of land there. Mary, married a man by the name of-Hand-, they had a daughter, Mary and at least two sons, they lived in the area most of their lives.
*Matthew II married Isabella Dodson, dau of Richard and Elinor Dodson, who was a neighbor of Matthew, who ownned 200 acres in Coo1 Spring. They were married at the Duck Creek MM, around the tenth (Dec), but the exact date and location is not shown. At the time of Mathew I death the land was broken into five, one hundred acre portions, one for each child and grandchild, Jonathan II..
