Son of Archibald Helms of North Carolina


Leaton Helms was born in Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, the son of Archibald and Elander Helms. He served in the Civil War in Lawrence Co Arkansas. He married Mary Jane Ward, the daughter of Francis Ward of TN. He moved to AR with his parents and siblings in the late 1840's from Jackson Co. TN.. He spent a good part of his life in Sharp Co AR and his mother appeared in the 1870-80 Census as living with him. He was a farmer, land owner, Civil War veteran and is buried in Townsend Cemetery in Lawrence Co. as is his wife Mary Jane.
