John M Davis Much has been written about the Davis family in this area. John M. and Sarah Ann White Davis' home was located near the Old Bethel Cemetery in Denton Arkansas. My cousin Tom Helms, the son of Warren and Frances Helms remembers going there with his Dad to see the old home of John and Sarah Davis which he says was a two story log home with four fireplaces. The Old Bethel Cemetery has many of the Davis and McCarroll families and many early settlers of that area. The first time I went there with my Aunt, Willie Williamson, we sent for a long slow walk to the back of the Cemetery taking pictures along the way, back to the grave of my Grandmother Martha Davis Helms and two of her sons Thomas and Leslie Helms. My eldest Aunt, Nettie Erwin Helms the wife of Leslie is now buried there beside her husband. On the walk back to the entrance to the Cemetery we stopped and read as many of the stones as we could and at the front are the graves of my great grandparents John and Sarah Ann White Davis and an early relative Nathaniel McCarroll who was buried there in 1835 and an ancester of the first wife of John Davis, Martha McCarroll Davis.

The old Cemetery, I understand is maintained and cared for by one of my cousins who I have never met, Grover Davis, who's home is built right next to the road leading to the Cemetery. It wasn't until much later that I realized that almost everyone buried in that Cemetery since 1835 is related to me in one way or another. It was a very humbling experience.
