I spent my lunchtime today IM'ing with a random 19-year-old boy who had decided to contact me because he saw in my profile that I live in San Francisco. I accepted his initial message because I thought it might be from someone I knew. But no. I don't hang out on AIM too much, and wasn't sure about the proper etiquette in these situations, so I tried to err on the side of being polite rather than dismissive. Anyway, I thought for sure that he would be deterred when I told him that I was 30 (he asked!)...but again, no. So, I chatted politely with him for a few minutes, and then said I had to get back to work. He seemed nice enough, I guess.

It's cold here and raining, and I'm very tired. I went running in the rain today. It used to be that back when I was in good shape I liked running in the rain in a perverse sort of way. It can really make you feel like a badass to run hard with the rain pouring down on you, and kicking up mud with your dirty sneakers. It's just like being someone in one of those Army recruitment ads except without all the fascist implications! But today, I just felt cold and wet. And fat and slow. Well, less fat and slow than I felt a month ago, but I still have a ways to go in terms of building my running back up. I'd originally thought that I might be back in shape to run the Napa Marathon in March. Ha!

Did I mention that I'm tired? My sleep has been all messed up lately for some reason. Last night, I slept horribly. I'd planned to wake up early this morning and get a bunch of stuff done in the lab, but I wound up waking up even before the alarm and not being able to go back to sleep. And now I feel sleepy, but I have to stay up. "Buffy" is on at 8. I have to finish up a few things in lab. And I have to go to the grocery store, because I actually have plans for the next three nights and won't be able to go then. All things that are more important than sleep, of course.

By the way, sorry about the broken image on the index page. I was hoping to do a random image thingy, and Jay was supposed to send me a perl script he has to do it, except he hasn't. He owes me $33 and a perl script. OK, also, I don't have the pictures yet, but let's just blame it on Jay--he won't mind.
