History of ekLED Lighting Solutions

In October of 2002 while travelling in a light rain, a friend of mine was rear-ended in his beautiful '69 Malibu. Due to the fog, spray, and just generally poor rear lighting on the car, the person who hit him didn't have the reaction time, and flat just didn't notice the dismal change in intensity of the taillights.

Nobody offered "model specific" LED upgrade lighting. Every parts store offered LED replacement "bulbs", but this is a generic solution to a specific problem. A few years passed and the mass-manufacturers started to produce LED lighting for the "most popular" Chevelle models... but nothing for the non-most-popular model or year guys.... the wagons, Camino's, the '64/5/6/7/8, '71/2....  this prompted me to start ekLED. A custom "niche" market provider of LED lighting to the abandoned step-children.... and not only Chevelle's!

Our LED replacement modules are designed using AutoCAD. All measurements and calculations are taken from actual vintage OEM housings and lenses - NOT off-shore reproductions. They usually go through 3 or 4 revisions on paper before being committed to circuit board. Even with this effort, there are usually 1 or 2 more revisions to the actual product.

Our design parameters are:
  • To exceed stock performance
  • Offer to convert un-used "reflector" areas into actual lighting (when practical)
  • Offer an option to convert Backup Lights into useable Turn/Stop indicators (when practical)
  • Require NO or no visible modification to the vehicle wiring, housings, or lenses
  • Be able to convert back to bulbs in minutes, using a pocket multi-tool.

I built a set of LED "modules" for my personal '64 El Camino, and made their debut at our next Club meeting. The response was overwhelming. Everyone was asking "Where'd you get those lights!" When they found out I built them myself, the "Hey, can you build me a set for my Chevelle?" started.

What started as a weekend workshop project has grown into ekLED.

We're a family based outfit that believes in 100% satisfaction and offers products designed & built in the USA, with time-honored components/materials offered from USA vendors. We manufacture our own circuit boards, hand-solder, and inspect every component. Each completed unit is given a 24-hour "burn in", at over-typical voltage.  Nothing leaves our workshop that I wouldn't put in my own car.... My/Our name is on every unit.
