American Museum of Natural History Photos

On Saturday, April 13, we tried to go to the American Museum of Natural History. Sadly, the place was literally swarming with Girl Scouts. Rather than fight the crowds for Girl Scout Day, we put off our visit until te next day. Crowd-wise, it was a pretty good move. Schedule-wise, it was less than ideal. We simply had nowhere near the amount of time I'd have liked. Oh well. Maybe another time...

As always, just click on an image to see a larger version.

This was the Subway entrance to the Museum. Lovely tile mosaics all through the station.

Here's the sight that greets visitors at the museum entrance. Cool, eh?

Here's a display of a sample game that has fascinated me for years - Go. Look for it in my upcoming novel. {;-)

Here's a bit of a close-up of some Tibetan religious texts. Yet another hobby of mine.

Here are some really cool statues from Asia. I wish I'd had time to study them more.

A display in the section about the human body and evolution. A family of skeletons enjoying an evening together.

Another view of the skeleton family, watching a video about bones and joints. Note the painting and cat skeleton!

An odd find... This was a large meteorite with a mirror above it. I snapped this image to catch the view of pennies pitched up top.

In the hall of Minerology, they had a huge collection of rocks including this item. I could have spent hours in there alone!

In the hall of Biodiversity, a neat display of sample organisms. Wow!

Inside the Rose Center for planetary science displays. The whole hall was built to demonstrate the scales of the universe.

Here's Deb, next to a cross-section of a sequoia cut down in 1910. What a size that thing must have been!
