Astronomy

Ever since I was a child, I was interested in astronomy. Before I could read, my older sister and parents were reading to me out of (among other things) a big science book about natural history. The presentations about the dinosaurs and sea monsters and so forth were OK, but I really loved seeing the photos and paintings of space scenes. Later, my parents invested in a series of books from Time-Life about nature and science. One book was about the Universe - by far the most-read in the collection.

Nowadays, I have a far more sophisticated appreciation of the universe. My interests include cosmology, cosmogony, and teaching others about the sky. I'm currently without a telescope (well, I have a scope, but the mount was broken at Scout Camp over the summer). I still love all the cool photos taken as part of astronomical research. Here are a few of my favorites:

Eagle Nebula
Hourglass Nebula
Egg Nebula

For any Creationists out there, the first shot is of a place where stars are in the process of forming right now. The other two are photos of planetary nebulae where stars that have run out of fuel are falling apart and dying. Our sun is no different from the other stars in the universe, physically. Think about it. For more thoughts, check out my article:
