Star Destroyer designs

Executer-class Super Star Destroyer
Manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, although the first ship, although the Executer was built at the shipyards of Fondor. At 17.5 km long, it was 11 times the length of the Imperator-class Star Destroyer. Although most official sources put its length at 8 km and Behind the Magic puts it at 12,800 meters long, the movies show it being at its correct size.

Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer
Manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards. Two ships of this class were built, to serve as the Emperor's flagship. The ship has a spine-mounted axial superlaser that although not as powerful as the Death Star's superlaser, was still quite devastating. It has several gravity well projectors, and many weapons emplacements. In addition, its shields and hull were strong enough to allow it to ram enemy vessels. Although it is shorter than the Executer-class, at 16 km, it masses much more. Several official sources place the length at 17.5 km, but Dark Empire, the originating source, places it at 10 miles, or approximately 16 km.

Sovereign-class Super Star Destroyer
Manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards. Four ships of this class were built. 15 km in length, these ships were quite similar to the Eclipse-class ships, including a spine-mounted axial superlaser, gravity well projectors, and similar armanent.

Imperator-class Star Destroyer
Also known as the Imperial Star Destroyer or ISD, these ships have are the most common ships of the Empire, with over 25,000 of these built. The ship was 1.6 km long, and one was assigned to every sector. A Kuat Drive Yards design, the ship was extremely versatile, packing a lot of firepower, 72 TIEs, 9,700 stormtroopers as well as various support craft for suppressing rebellious worlds, as well as a range of attack ships, landing craft, barges, and drop ships. The ISD has enough firepower to turn a planet's crust into slag, with a Base-Delta-Zero attack. There are two sub-classes of ISDs, the Imperator-I, and the Imperator-II, which has an improved hull, and greater weaponry.

Republic-class Star Destroyer
One of the New Republic's "New Class" designs, created to increase the degree of standardization in its vessels. Manufactured by Rendilli Stardrive, the creators of the Victory-class Star Destroyers. Costs half the amount of an Imperator-class, and has 20 percent more firepower than the Imperator-I, though not as powerful as the Imperator-II. 1250 m in length and carries a wing of starfighters. Remains in limited production.

Nebula-class Star Destroyer
Another of the New Republic's "New Class" designs, so that the standardization of ships in its fleet would improve. 1040 m in length.

Victory-class Star Destroyer
An old Star Destroyer design built by Rendilli Stardrive, and used by the Old Republic. The ship is 900 m long, carries 2 squadrons of TIE fighters, and 2,000 ground troops wth support craft and drop ships and troop transports. The hyperdrive is twice as fast as that of Imperator-class destroyers, but has poor sublight speed. The ship was good for planetary operations, as it could enter a planet's atmosphere. Two sub-classes of VSDs were built, the Victory-I and the improved Victory-II. As the Imperator-class destroyers were built, the Victory-class destroyers were sold, decommisioned, or reassigned to defense roles and reserve fleets.

Defender-class Star Destroyer
One of the New Republic's "New Class" designs. 1040 m in length. Not to be confused with the Defender-class Assualt Carriers. Although it was only 65% as large as Imperator-class vessels, it was a match for the Imperator-II. Carries a wing of starfighters. Manufactured by Republic Engineering Corporation.
