I am an ex-floor trader from
Chicago who now trades online.
As a sideline I teach
other traders, novice or experienced, in my methods.
It's not a large scale operation; only a few students per month, as
I
spend most of my time trading the markets.
I trade the E-mini S&P
index, which is like trading the market as a whole.
I
don't have to follow dozens of individual stocks, nor analyze any
industries or balance sheets. And, it's not necessary to keep
up with the all of
the market "information" offered by
the media.
My trades are selected by way
of price charts - "technical analysis". Certain
chart
patterns, when combined with indicators of market sentiment, tell me
when to Buy, or Sell.
The Method is the result of 20
years of personal trading and industry
employment. Since 1981 I've researched many trading methods; I've
attended
seminars, read books and manuals, and observed
the trading of hundreds of
public customers and
hundreds of floor traders, both off-floor and in the "pit".
People sometimes ask me how my
trading course differs from the others. One
important
difference: I am a trader with many years experience, including the
Chicago futures trading floors. My background is in
trading – discovering and
using systems to
attempt to predict market direction. However, many of the other
system vendors out there seem to instead have backgrounds in
motivational
sales – hawking ‘financial
freedom’ schemes to the public.
When I established my website
back in early 2000, there were only a few others
offering courses in index day trading, and they usually had some real
experience
with trading. But nowadays, the same
hucksters who sell “No-Money-Down”
real estate courses
seem to have invaded the trading education field.
The main characteristic of the
trading system huckster is that they themselves
don’t trade the markets – or rarely, if they ever do.
I would avoid market “gurus”
who constantly promote themselves with mass-market
advertising. A trading method that is mass marketed eventually loses its
effectiveness,
as thousand of people attempt to trade
the same entry prices at the same time.
Another type of non-trading
hustler is the seminar peddler who travels from city to
city, giving high priced seminars at hotels. If they really knew how to
make the profits
they promise, they should be at home -
trading the markets as much as possible.
I believe a
successful E-mini trader can make far more money than a seminar peddler –
when you consider the costs of advertising, travel, and hiring
assistants.
I would also avoid any large
“corporate” type operation. “Trading companies”, software
companies, “trading institutes”, any group or organization – if they
have a sales staff and
assistants, then they are
probably not traders – they’re merchants. Most likely they are
making money by selling the dream of trading, and not by trading
themselves.
The craft of day trading is practiced by
the individual – not by a committee.
Trading is a skill, an art, and
a science. I believe the only way to learn is by the
master-apprentice relationship, along with some trial and error trading
experience.
And one day you may be ready to go it
alone. Ultimately it is a solitary occupation.
You
alone must watch the quote screen, maintain your discipline, and stay with
the
trading method you have chosen.
