Setting up a backup client
- Need to make sure all appropriate resources exist first.
- A client needs to be in a group, so either choose an existing group or create a new group.
- A client should have a directive, choose an existing directive or create a new one.
- Browse and retention policies are required, choose existing or create new.
- A schedule is required, choose existing or create new.
- Make sure that there is a pool which will attract the data from the client.
If no such pool exists, the data will go to the "Default" pool.
- Create the client
- Use the nwadmin or nsradmin tool.
- Enter "client setup" mode and perform a "create".
- Fill in all the required fields.
- Click the "Apply" button, this writes the client info to the resource directory.
- If you get something wrong, you can always go back and modify the client.
- The backup for the client will start at the defined start time for the group it is in.
- This appears simple, but requires lots of planning.
