Wailua is a Board Certified, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)with prescriptive authority in Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. In this specialty, he is both a Clinical Nurse Specialist (acute care) and a Nurse Practitioner (primary care), with a Masters Degree from Yale University and a Post-Masters Certificate from California State University Long Beach. His private practice includes psychotherapy and medication management (both traditional and complementary/ alternative) for individuals, couples, families and groups; consultation to individuals and business; and teaching (clinical instructor of nursing at University of Hawai'i). He is a certified practitioner of Holographic Memory Resolution (HMR). He has published professional articles and a text chapter and has been featured in several books about nurses. Wailua is active in professional nursing organizations, both locally and nationally. A dual member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Delta Mu Chapter and Gamma Psi Chapter-at-Large, he is a former Publicity Chair of both chapters and past Editor of the Gamma Psi chapter's newsletter. He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and O'ahu Director-at-Large of the APNA Hawai'i Chapter as well as a past President and Co-founder of the Chapter. He is the first President and co-founder of the Hawai'i Association of Professional Nurses (HAPN)
