John Scialabba talks about Brian:

"I have known for quite awhile that some guys knew him well, others never knew him at all... and sometimes I forget who belongs in which category. It seems like I ask Miskell every 6 months, 'Did you know Brian or did you join the team after his accident?' (Miskell, by the way, is a post-Brian skater) ... that's kind of why I thought it was time to drop "Brian" from Brian's Bail Bonds. Obviously, I'll never forget him, but more and more, there are fewer people left on the team that knew him. Anyway - He was Brian Paul Mercado. He passed away in October of 1997. He spent most of his life growing up in Virginia. He has a sister named Lori (age 26'ish and she is a Baby-Doll! You may have met her at A.J. and Jill's wedding) and a brother named Jeff (age 28'ish) who is a teacher in South Carolina. -- Brian and I both had a mutual friend named Jon (who is still my best friend). Jon's parents were divorced - his mother lived in Virginia and his Father lives in Ohio... so Jon was always going back and forth. When Jon and Brian graduated high school, Jon happened to be living in Ohio and so Brian moved here to start attending Ohio State. That's how Brian and I met (through Jon). We both discovered our common interest in hockey and we began playing on OSU's intramural teams. The rest (as they say) is history...."
