Brian's Bail Bonds Hockey was established in 1997 in memory of Brian Paul Mercado.
Brian was a teammate on our Sunoco team who passed away unexpectedly
in a motorcycle accident. When the Sunoco team disbanded, some members of the team stayed together to form a new team and
we needed a name. Brian's favorite movie was The Bad News Bears. The Bears, as we all remember were sponsored by
Chico's Bail Bonds. The choice for our team name was obvious. Brian's Bail Bonds took to the ice.
Along the way we've been fortunate enough to win a few championships: the
first in the spring of 1998, (or was it '99?) at The Dublin Chiller, the most recent in the summer of 2004 at The Worthington
Ice Center. More importantly, we've been able to enjoy our time as friends playing a game.
We've got some great memories, tournaments in Columbus,
Indianapolis and Chicago. (Our tournament record is a perfect O fer.) The stories abound and they get better with each telling.
Of course, as time has gone by the team has changed. We've lost
some players and gained others. But, while many of our current players may not have known Brian we all choose to continue
to remember him. The "B" on the shoulder of
our jerseys has been a constant, at least it has been when our jerseys have all matched. Whatever the case, we remember
Brian, we play hockey, we tell stories, we drink beer and we always make sure we have fun.
We're a big bunch of characters with too much time on our hands,
not enough hockey to play or beer to drink and we're all proud to be part of the Brian's Bail Bonds Hockey Family.
The team currently plays in The Chiller Tuesday League.
