In 2004 I attended Escalante Canyons Everett Ruess Days Art Festival and painted 6 open air  paintings in 3 days. I presented a plein air painting workshop and reveled in the beauty and grandeur of the incredible, vast country of Esclante-Grand Staircase National Momument. I am retuning this year to paint and present a workshop on expressive plein air painting, using any media. If you are interested in attending my workshop, please e-mail me for details. If you are intereted in finding out more about the Arts Festival (October 3-8, Escalante, Utah) Please click here.

Expressive Plein Air Painting/Drawing Workshop
Cost:$25
Time: 1-4pm, Saturday October 7
Materials: Any you bring, preferably color: Oil paint, acrylic, soft pastels, oil pastels, crayons, watercolor, colored pencils, sketchbook, canvas, paper, drawing board, easel, folding chair
As you can see by my paintings, I love color. Color to me expresses emotion and heightens the feeling of being at a place. Color expresses energy and helps to convey a tactile sense of place. My workshop in Escalante will be open to students of any age (including youth) and skill level who are interested in exploring the phenomenon of plein air painting (working in the open air, on location, at the site) and are not afraid to experiment with color and other ways of expressing feelings in your work. E-mail me for reservations or more details. Please put "Escalante" in the subject heading so I know what its about!

We will meet at 1pm at the Kiva Coffee House and jump into painting and drawing with both feet! You will need to bring your own materials and be ready to enjoy the spectacular view and creating in a different, personal way.

These are some of the paintings I did in 2004 in and around Escalante, Utah, during the Art Festival. All are oil on canvas and painted entirely out doors, on location.
