- Know all men by these
presents that I Dr[u]wry Warters [sic--the
name is spelled several different ways] of the State
and District aforesaid for the [sic] in
consideration of the sum of one hundred and seventy five
dollars to me paid in hand by Joseph Liles Junior the
receipt wherof is hereby acknowledged have granted
bargained sold and released and by these presents do
grant bargain sell and release unto the said Joseph Liles
Junior a certain or parcel of Land it being a part of a
Tract granted originally to Hugh Brown Surveyed for him
the fourth day of May A.D. 1798 and granted to said Brown
the 5th [?] day of December A.D. 1798 lying on a
branch of Long Nose Creek waters of Tugalo River
containing ninety seven acres whereon Drewry Warters now
lives for shapes and marks reference may be had to a plat
mad out by Robert Fullerton and I do hereby warrant and
forever defend the said premises rights members
hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in
any wise incident or pertaining to the same to the said
Joseph Liles Junior his heirs and assigns TO HAVE AND TO
HOLD all and singular the said premises against myself my
heirs executors administrators and assigns and against
all other persons lawfully claiming the same or any part
thereof in witness whereof I have here set my hand and
seal this sixteenth day of November in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty
three.

Whisenant before me and made oath in due form of Law that
he did see Drewry Waters sign seal and acknowledge the
within and foregoing deed of conveyance to Joseph Liles
Junior for the use and purposes therein mentioned and
that Edward Hughes was with himself as subscribing
witness to the due execution of the same Sworn and
subscribed this 16th day of Novr, 1853.

certify unto all whom it may concern that Sabery
[?] Ann Waters the wife of the within named
Drewry Waters did this day appear before me and upon
being privately and seperately examined by me did declare
that she does freely voluntarily and without any
compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons
whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto
the within named Joseph Liles Junior his heirs and
assigns all her interest and estate and also all her
right and claim of Dower of in or to all and singular the
pr[e]mises within mentioned and released Given
under my hand and seal this 19th day of November Anno
Domini 1853.

- This Indenture made
the 18th Day of September In the year of Our Lord One
thousand Eight hundred and Sixty Six between W.E.
Holcombe Esquire Ordinary of the District and Joseph
Liles Jr of the same State and District, whereas a writ
of Summons to divide or sell a certain Tract of Land
hereinafter described of the Estate of C.C. Whisenant
issued from the Court of Ordinary of said District and
upon the return thereof the Judges of said Court did
determine that the said Land could not be divided without
injury to the parties Interest, and did order the same to
be sold by the Sheriff of the district aforesaid on a
credit of Twelve Months, whereupon the Sheriff of the
District aforesaid did advertise the said land for sale
on the first Monday in April 1866 and whereas the Sheriff
aforesaid did on said day aforesaid expose to sale at
public outcry on the Credit aforesaid the said Land when
W.H.[sic] Holcombe was the last and highest
bidder to whom the said land was struck off for the sum
of One Hundred and forty five [dollars] and he
orders title made to Joseph Liles Jr. Now this Indenture
witnesseth That in consideration of One Hundred and forty
five Dollars to made paid the receipt whereof is
acknowledged, I have granted bargained sold and released,
and by the presents do grant bargain sell and release to
the said Joseph Liles Jr and his Heirs forever all that
Tract of land Situate in Pickens District on Beaverdam
branch waters of Toxaway Creek, adjoining Lands of S E
Maxwell, Joseph Liles Jr and others, Containing One
Hundred and forty two acres more or less, with the
appurtenances thereunto belonging and all the Estate
right title interest claim or demand which C C Whisenant
deceased at the time of his death had in or to the same.
To Have and To Hold the Said Tract of Land together with
all and singular the premises improvements and
appurtenances to the said Joseph Liles Jr and his Heirs
and assigns forever. In witness whereof I the said W.E.
Holcomb as Ordinary aforesaid have hereunto set my hand
and seal and year afore mentioned. Signed sealed and
