Know all men by these
presents that I, Reuben Gilbert of the State &
District aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of
one hundred & fifty dollars the receipt of which I do
hereby acknowledge. Have bargained, sold and conveyed
[illegible] unto James H. Dendy. All that
plantation and tract of land situate in Pickens District
on Chauga Creek waters of Tugaloo River and containing
one hundred acres more less formerly owned by Aaron Mills
bounded by the lands of Robert Hackett and a small tract
formerly owned by David Liles and another small tract
formerly owned by Humphrey Lindsay. To have and to hold
all & singular the premises above mentioned unto the
said Jas. H. Dendy, his heirs and assigns forever. And I
do hereby bind myself, my heirs and assigns to warrant
and forever defend the said tract of land against myself
my heirsand against all persons whomsoever lawfully
claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
13th day of January, Anno Domini one thousand eight
hundred and forty, the sixty fourth year of American
Independence.

Personally appeared
William A. Liles before me one of the subscribing
Justices for the District afforesaid and sayeth on oath
that he saw Reuben Gilbert sign, seal, and deliver the
within deed to James H. Dendy for the use and purposes
therein mentioned and Joseph Liles did subscribe with him
as a witness to the same. Sworn to and subscribed this
second day of May 1840--

Know all men by these
presents that I, Joseph Liles of the State and District
aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of fifty
four dollars the receipt of which I do acknowledge. Have
bargained, sold, released and conveyed unto James H.
Dendy all that plantation or tract of land situate in
Pickens District on Chauga Creek waters of Tugaloo River
and containing one hundred acres more or less formerly
owned by David Liles deceased, bounded by lands
[of] the Mill tract and the tract formerly
belonging to Gilson Oliver deceased, and adjoining the
Lindsay tract of 100 acres. To have and to hold all and
singular the premises above named unto the said James H.
[Dendy], his heirs & assigns forever. And I
do bind myself, my heirs, executors, admrs. & assigns
to warrant and forever defend the lands aforesaid.
Together with all and singular the rights, members,
herediments & appurtenances to the said
premisesbelonging against myself & my heirs, and
against all persons whomsoever lawfully claiming or to
claim the same or any part thereof. In witness whereof I
have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 13th
day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and forty 1840 and sixty fourth year of American
Independence.
