The 1840 Census
Lyles and allies in the Pickens and Union Districts of South Carolina

return to the William A. Lyles page | modified June 26, 1999

PICKENS DISTRICT, WESTERN DIVISION

[Note: the census taker for the Pickens District is probably responsible for the "Lisle" spelling. The Union County census taken always uses the "Lyles" spelling. I've listed the Lyles households in the order that they appear in the census. I've also given the original census book page numbers; each page lists about 30 households.]

I didn't find any remaining Lyles households in 1840, though they had been established there since at least 1779. David Lyles was there in 1800. By the 1820s to 1830s, the Lyles families seem to have moved.
