A bit of catching up.
I've got bits and pieces of news balanced against a deadline that is bearing down on me. So here's the down and dirty:
1) Spanish rights to The Givenchy Code have sold! Yay!!
2) I thought the Robert McKee Story seminar was absolutely fabulous. I'll probably post more at some point or do an article, but suffice it to say the seminar both made me think and (more importantly) got me through some story issues. (It had the unintended side effect of making me want to write a screenplay again, something I haven't done in about 10 years, and I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THAT MUSE. But she won't shut up, and my muses usually get what they want, so I may be posting that I've finished a screenplay one of these days.)
3) ENDGAME by Dee Davis is still on shelves and fabulous. An RT top pick. Don't miss this one!
4) THE DIVA'S GUIDE TO SELLING YOUR SOUL by Kathleen O'Reilly is about to hit the shelves. I adore this book. Don't miss it either!
5) C sat through all of The Wizard of Oz (amazing!) and when the part came where the black and white changed to color, she sat up and yelled, "What the HECK happened!" D and I cracked up. Her new phrase is also "freaking me out." I realize this all reflects back on me, but I just find it so danged amusing!
6) Great article on me in the Williamson County paper last Sunday. Front page of the Life section and everything. This was the first time I'd ever been interviewed in my home with photographers. And believe me, I don't do photographs well. But they actually turned out good! And the article is great, too. So, yay!!

Walk for Breast Cancer, wanna help?
2005 Atlanta Breast Cancer 3-Day - General Donation This isn't the usual thing for my blog/news/whatever. But here's a good cause that I just learned about from my friend Julie Moore (I know way too many Julies, I really do ...). At any rate, as Julie M describes it, she's gonna be walking 60 miles. I am MOST impressed, as I was doing good to make it around one block with C the other day ...
At any rate, Julie writes "It's called the Breast Cancer 3-Day. I am going to be walking (or crawling) 60 miles over the course of three days, for a cause devoted to helping women discover breast cancer early enough to beat it and committed to finally finding a cure. There are several such events around the country - I'm participating in the Atlanta 3-day from Sept. 30-Oct. 1. As a condition of participation, I must raise at least $2,100. Proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund."
"One in eight women will be affected by breast cancer. One in eight. Think how many women friends you have. What are the odds that you will never be directly affected by breast cancer? Too high. This is a very small attempt at making a difference. I hope you will join me."
And so I did join and made a donation. Follow the link if you'd like more info or to make a donation.

The Mommy Blog - Yay!!!
The Mommy Blog Mindy's got a great post at The Mommy Blog about Demon! Yay!!! I'm SO thrilled she loved it!
Out of the mouths of babes ...
So D and I are playing "catch" with C, a game wherein we do not in fact catch, but instead hit a big yellow balloon, sending said yellow balloon bouncing around creation. In the process, C decides she must lecture D in the proper technique for playing the game. "Hit it with your brain, Daddy," she says. And, to demonstrate just where her brain is, she holds up her little fist.
My child, the thug-to-be ....
And, in case you were wondering (and I know you were ...), movie night at the Kenner household was the Sponge Bob movie. C and I loved it (even the scary parts), but D fell asleep. Not sure who that says the most about ...

Still Procrastinating...
It occurred to me that I should solicity sympathy, cyber-caffeine, and cyber-chocolate because a book I thought was due in August has had it's due date pushed up to May. Yes, May. MAY. The month that is fast approaching. The one that will follow April (and March no longer counts since we're already 3 days into it, which means, really, I have 30 days. OK, 60, since my editor didn't say WHEN in May. I'm thinking 11:59 on May 31. Which still doesn't leave that much time ...) So why am I wasting time writing this? Beats the heck out of me ... (Yes, yes, I'm getting back to work. That's my mom's voice I hear in my head...) It's moment like these, though, when it's really nice that I no longer have that day job ...
ALMOST THERE!!! The end is in sight!
I think I must be experiencing some physics phenomenon. Like time expanding to fill a vacuum, procrastination expands to fill a manuscript. I am 2 and one half scenes away from "The End" with the entire book proofed up to the beginning of the last chapter. It's close. I can see it. I can imagine the hero's big speech at the end. Heck, I've even got tears in my eyes at the thought of it (no, really, and good tears, too. emotional moment stuff). So why, why, why am I not there yet, especially since I really want/need/should send the mss off to my editor tonight? And promised myself I wouldn't go to sleep until I was done? Why am I not cranking like a machine? Why am I typing this? Honestly, I don't know. I wish I did. Considering the procrastination techniques of all the writers I know, if I could figure out the cause and the cure ... and then market it ... I'd be a very rich women.

The Mommy Blog All right, yes, there's a permanent link over to the side, but I just had to point out that I so love this blog ... and not even because she says nice things about my book, LOL. And I SWEAR the Mindy name thing hadn't even occurred to me when I sent the advance copy!
