Stew Weather

It’s a family tradition we’ve always held to,

That on the first cold day, Mom makes stew!

Jamie called on the phone, "When’s stew day?"

As Jim came through the door, he asked the same way.

It’s time to cook stew, so for fixins good,

I’m off to the store in our neighborhood.

Then set aside time, to cut beef to the size of a bite,

Remove all the gristle, and brown till just right.

Meanwhile cut up four large potatoes small enough for the mouth.

When the meats tender, add taters to the broth.

Then tomato sauce and seasonings, vegetables, stew size and mixed,

Are added to the cooking pot, and now the stew is fixed.

Just cook till all is tender, and flavors blend with one another.

Then cook a little longer, till we three are all together.

Now serve it up hot with cornbread golden brown,

And with caramel brownies for desert, nothing better can be found.

We’ve not many traditions, it certainly is true.

But our love of God, and one another, and then there’s stew!
