The miltary government's long-standing  policy is to restrict 
Palestinian construction to small enclaves, and to deny building 
permits to  Palestinians whose land happens to be located outside 
these overcrowded designated areas ("ghettos" you could call them). 
Under Barak, the destruction of such "illegal" houses was 
stopped - after pressure from below and internationally. 
This restriction has  now been removed, and the miltary authorities  
have destroyed 15 homes in just one day with many more destructions every day.
From a witness who attempted to stop the destruction: They went so far as to lie and say that they weren't
demolishing homes when Deputy Defense Minister Dalia Rabin Pilosof's advisor
Yossi Rakhmani called to ask for a delay.  The driver of the backhoe made a point of saying how much he
enjoyed demolishing the home. Beyond the dry reports
on Israeli radio about 15 homes demolished for "illegal building" are 15
families.  This along with the attack on 1,500 trees in Dir Istya two days
ago (Again with tricks to try to prevent lawyers from delaying the
uprooting) and the ongoing siege denying medical care and causing mass
hunger give lie to government pronouncements that they are easing up the war
against civilians.
