Politics and democracy

This page is in a state of massive construction and it will take a while.
The essence is this: we need to address systemic matters of social and environmental justice (which often are closely related) and politics is a primary means of doing so. Unfortunately, the rules of the game are stacked against us, which is where "democracy" comes in - we must work to change them against the forces that worked hard to tilt them as they are now. A statement opposing the WTO agreement and endorsing organizations in 80+ countries

The above mostly are trying to reframe the structure of our political system rather than directed toward specific policy issues, partly through the inside with legislators and partly through the outside with basic grassroots organizing. Working within the system as it is today on many important policy issues affecting us globally is the Union of Concerned Scientists, which provides positions on topics such as global resources, transportation, arms control, and global warming based on solid scientific research. I am a member and I wholeheartedly endorse their efforts.
