Dear Friends,
I am announcing my re-election bid to represent the towns of Calais,
Marshfield and Plainfield.
In my first term, I was named a member of the Health Care Committee
and later transferred to the Ways and Means Committee where I was
asked to continue her work on health care.
I was closely involved with every aspect of developing the health
care legislation. Although there is more work to be done, the bill
we passed is a significant first step toward true health care reform.
It will transform the way health care is delivered and offer health
insurance to the uninsured based on their ability to pay.
I was also a chief architect and sponsor of a bill
that reaffirmed Vermonters’ right of access to records
maintained by the administration.
This is an important piece of legislation. My decision to sponsor
the bill came from the experience of one of my constituents, who
had become sick from carpet in her state office. When she requested
key documents, she was denied and told that they were protected
by a new privilege. This was just wrong and Rep. Tony Klein and
I decided to do something about it.
I received a BA from Stanford University, and an MSW and JD from
the Unviersity of Denver. I was a staff member for the Vermont
Legislature and Legal Counsel to Governor Howard Dean and Tax Commisioner
in the Dean administration.
Serving in the legislature gives me a chance to
use the skills, experience and connections I’ve built over
the years to do something for the state and community I love.
I am excited about
the opportunity to continue to do so.
My home is in Calais where I live with my husband Stephen Reynes,
two cats, two fish and a dog named Andy.
And, as always, please keep in touch. My phone is 223-5350, email
is janetancel@earthlink.net
or jancel@leg.state.vt.us and
regular mail is PO Box 123, Calais, VT 05648.
